Backstory

My wife was diagnosed with breast cancer in the fall of 2008. It was caught early. Aggressive bilateral mastectomy was the choice. My concern was the lack of a cohesive focus to find a cure. I wanted a definitive course, I wanted strong leadership, I wanted to know the solution. So, I did what any normally crazy supportive co-survivor would do... enlisted for an ironman. 13 Days

Ok, six days until the Pigman Triathlon. Sprint distance. .5k swim, 25k bike, 5k run. I still have yet to touch water. I have accepted that the first time I swim will be in the tri. I need to make it 310m...approximately lucky number 13 laps in a 25m pool. Figure you can run the first 10m into and out of the water... so down to 290m. Avoided the unlucky 13.

Bigger concern is the 2.4 miles later this year. I will worry about the sprint distance first.

Lesly is doing very well. No loss of the sense of humor. If anything it has darkened (closer to my level) and I find it hysterical. Great one this morning. Unfortunately, it would likely not translate too well in written form. I will let her tell the story as a guest blogger if she so desires.

Got out for an hour bike yesterday along with a 30 minute run. Another hour bike today. Today less eventful then yesterday. Probably a little more effort until Wednesday-Thursday and then taper for the race.

Matt Cannon (IT Dept) is going to be doing the race as well. Actually, he should beat me... it will likely be pretty close. Since he only has 145lbs to move, I have 195lbs, makes for an uphill battle. Plus he has the whole "having been in water" thing working in his favor.

Hope everyone had a great Memorial Day, and thank you all so much for your charitable help. It is greatly appreciated.
